San Francisco Presidio Battery To Bridge Trail

Location:  San Francisco Presidio, California

Project Description:

The stretch of coast south of the Golden Gate Bridge features a network of early and mid 20th century bunkers and gun casements built to protect the entry to San Francisco Bay.  A collection of formal and social trails haphazardly weave through the site lacking proper cohesion and necessary barriers to sensitive habitat.  The Master Plan develops a coherent system of pedestrian and multi-use trails, visitor access facilities, and amenities.  The master plan addresses the visitor use experience linking the Golden Gate Bridge to the Lincoln Ave roadside trail leading southward to Battery Chamberlain.  The design features a new overlook plaza celebrating views of the Golden Gate Bridge and incorporates trail alignments enhancing visitor experience of the historic battery complexes and the natural settings of the site.
